Today's Story Highlights

Tim Cook Devotes a Lot of Words to Saying Very Little
Tim Cook talked about his five years at the helm of Apple in a wide-
ranging interview published Saturday. Apple fans looking for juicy
morsels about new products won't find them in the Q & A, however. Among
other things, Cook discounted the bleak claims of those analysts who
maintain the smartphone market is in decline -- and Apple's fortunes
with it.

Feds Make Big Strides in Big Data Management
U.S. government agencies gradually have been getting a handle on
utilizing the potential of big data and data analytics. At the same
time, the Obama administration has recognized that significantly more
investment will be required for federal big data research in order to
guide agencies toward maximizing the value of processing huge chunks of
data and improving their data analysis capabilities.

Huffington Leaves Post to Focus on Health Startup
Arianna Huffington on Thursday announced she would leave her position as
editor-in-chief of the eponymous publication she cofounded 11 years ago
to focus on her latest project -- Thrive Global, a lifestyle, health and
wellness site. The reasons for her exit from The Huffington Post may be
more complicated than that, however.

Russian Regulators Scoop Apple Into Price-Fixing Probe
A Russian regulatory authority earlier this week named Apple, along with
more than a dozen Russian retailers, as a target for an investigation
into price-fixing activities. The Federal Antimonopoly Service, or FAS,
has seen signs of price-setting coordination among iPhone resellers in
Russia, according to a notice published on the agency's website.

Is This the Beginning of the End for the Set-Top Box?
C Spire started out as a privately owned wireless competitor in
Mississippi. Since then, it has expanded in several directions. Its
focus last year was on installing high-speed Internet in a few
Mississippi cities. Now it is partnering with MobiTV to offer a new
television service for the home. The service will not use the set-top
boxes common with cable TV.

CFB Strategies Cofounders: Catching Up With CRM
CRM innovations in recent years have had a significant impact on
campaigns and nonprofit organizations, according to CFB Strategies
President Trace Anderson. "Traditionally in the campaign world, it was
an old-school mentality of just collecting checks," he said. "Even when
I started working in politics, from 2006 to 2008, everything was done by
hand."

GV's Bill Maris Passes Torch to Krane
GV founder Bill Maris on Wednesday announced that he was departing the
company after an eight-year tenure, and that his replacement would be
David Krane, a managing partner and one of his chief deputies at the
Alphabet-owned venture capital firm. Krane is a 17-year Google veteran.
Maris reportedly wanted to spend more time with his wife and 11-month-
old son.

Adblock Plus Mouse Roars at Facebook
Adblock Plus on Thursday announced that the open source community had
created a filter to neutralize Facebook's latest offensive in its
ongoing battle with ad blockers. Any Adblock Plus users who want to
implement the workaround will have to update their filterlists manually.
"For this round of the cat-and-mouse contest, looks like the mouse won,"
said Adblock Plus spokesperson Ben Williams.

Amazon's Prime Air Brand Takes Flight
Amazon last week unveiled its first Prime Air plane during the Boeing
Seafair Air Show in Seattle. The company has undertaken an ambitious
effort to gain control of its massive distribution network for delivery
of goods to its retail customers. The plane, dubbed "Amazon One," is a
Boeing 767-300 operated by Atlas Air. Atlas and ATSG have partnered with
Amazon to fly a total of 40 cargo planes.

The 4 Fundamental Attributes of Customer Loyalty, Part 4
If you want to succeed at engaging customers, or anyone else for that
matter, it helps to have a model of what success looks like. This idea
isn't new. Elite athletes train themselves to see a perfect race in
their mind's eye, or to imagine the arc of a ball to its flawless
conclusion. Scientists model physical and chemical reactions that occur
at a scale too small to view directly.

Facebook Aims to Scrub Clickbait From News Feed
Facebook last week announced a new move to fight clickbait in the News
Feed: downranking links from Web domains and Facebook Pages that
consistently post clickbait headlines. Those that stop posting clickbait
no longer will be downranked. Users who post links that lead to a
clickbait domain on their personal Facebook page also could have their
posts downgraded, according to Facebook.

Time Warner Cable Really Doesn't Like Me
After surviving well over a year as a cord-cutter, I recently returned
to the cable fold -- and after less than a month, I'm having major
regrets. The problem isn't with the service itself or even with the
pricing. The problem is with the lies. I wasn't entirely happy with my
cord-cutting solution, but I wasn't eager to go back to a high-priced
cable service either.

Walmart Pursues Amazon at Jet Speed
Walmart on Monday announced that it plans to acquire Jet.com, paying $3
billion in cash and another $300 million worth of Walmart shares. With
the acquisition, "Walmart.com will grow faster, the seamless shopping
experience we're pursuing will happen quicker, and w''ll enable the Jet
brand to be even more successful in a shorter period of time," McMillion
said.
