Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X may not support this Android O feature
Google is yet to rollout the consumer version of its Android O mobile operating system, which was unveiled in March this year. Following the launch, detailed insight into the OS was made at the Google IO developer's conference in May. The OS, which is in beta version for now, is confirmed to support aptX Bluetooth streaming. Though the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X smartphones are eligible to receive the OS version, Android Police says they won't be receiving the aptX Bluetooth feature.
For the uninitiated, the aptX Bluetooth streaming are a series of streaming protocols owned by Qualcomm. It features high-quality (high bitrate) Bluetooth audio streaming at much lower latency, which ultimately results better audio quality streaming over Bluetooth networks. This feature is based on the hardware of the device.

A user report on Google Issue Tracker was spotted by Android Police. The report states that the Nexus 6P will miss out on the aptX option. A Google developer later surmised the issue by labelling it as 'Won't Fix'. The developer explained, "Unfortunately support for aptX and aptX HD are not supported on Nexus 6p and Nexus 5X -- only on newer devices."
While this could be a let down for many fans, it however doesn't entirely remove the possibility of having aptX in the latest 'Nexus' smartphones. iFixit, a website known for tearing down tech devices, says both smartphones come with Qualcomm WCD9330 audio codec chip. The same chip is present in the LG G4 as well, which supports aptX.
Although the Google developer has nearly confirmed the feature won't hit Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, the company may just bring it as a part of a firmware update. In case you missed it, previous reports suggested that Pixel and Pixel XL's fingerprint gesture won't be arriving on Nexus 6P and 5X. However, Google evaluated the possibilities and brought the particular feature to Nexus smartphones with Android 7.1.2 Nougat.
